Description

"The imagination takes control of reality, leads us into a world submerged in darkness. The invisible becomes real. We feel more than we perceive. You can hear Shakespeare's words spoken half-voiced: We are made of the same matter as our dreams, and our fragile existences are shrouded in sleep." - Wojciech Siudmak, Siudmak. Chopin, Dom Wydawniczy Rebis, 2021

The work Turandot is a fascinating portrait of the power of authority, of whatever kind. In the hands of a ruler, this power becomes dangerous and requires its subjects to perform almost impossible tasks. The key symbol here is the lily, the flower of impurity, which also becomes a sword. This is a clear reference to the fact that power can be ambiguous and its use has consequences. The phantoms emerging from the sphere are a metaphor for abundance, the year of plenty. However, does this abundance in the hands of the ruler always lead to excessive waste and selfishness?

"Turandot" is suffused with an atmosphere of haze and ambiguity, which emphasises the uncertainty that accompanies power. It is like a representation of a world where boundaries are blurred and decisions are ambiguous. All these individual characters, seem to be written in the subconscious, suggesting that there is a deeper layer of meaning that needs to be discovered in a personal way.

Inkography "Turandot" by Wojciech Siudmak was created in a closed limited edition of 100 copies.

Wojciech Siudmak - painter and sculptor, was born in 1942 in Wieluń, Poland. Between 1956 and 1961, he continued his education in Warsaw, at the High School of Fine Arts and then studied at the Academy of Fine Arts. In September 1966, he left for Paris and began his studies at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts. He lives and works in France. Wojciech Siudmak is a leading representative of fantasy realism and science fiction. Fantastic realism combines surreal vision with naturalistic art and has its roots in surrealism, as represented by S. Dali and R. Magritte. What Siudmak shares with Dalí is a virtuosity in rendering the three-dimensional illusion of space, a sense of light and shadow, linear and aerial perspectives. Siudmak's timeless art, captivates with its Renaissance perfection and virtuosity and imagination beyond the norm, fascinating with its intellectual richness. Many famous personalities have expressed their admiration for the artist's work: Federico Fellini, Jean-Jacques Annaud, George Lucas, Paul Guth, John Harrison, Jacques Goimard, Jean Claude Dunyach, Francis Lai, Guy Beart, Kim Stanley Robinson and Denis Villeneuve director of the Oscar-winning film "Diuna".
