Description

Does power always lead to dehumanisation? Is there a line between power and tyranny?

"The God Emperor of Dune" takes us to another planet, where power and domination are the order of the day. The central figure is a phantom of an emperor - without interior or torso - who subjugates all the inhabitants.

It reflects on the ethical question of power and its consequences. It shows how supremacy can transform a person into something otherworldly, leading to a loss of identity.

"I think that the fascination with his drawings, stored somewhere deep in my memory, allowed me in 2006 to undertake a gigantic journey into the universe of Dune, a kind of dialogue with Frank Herbert's work. (...) I chose drawing because this creative form seemed to me the deepest and most worthy of dialogue with Herbert. 'What I have not drawn, I have not seen,' said Goethe. Ingres, on the other hand, claimed that drawing is the essence of art'. These two statements are enough to understand the meanderings I followed to draw thoughts crowding in from nature." - Wojciech Siudmak, Siudmak Fantastic Worlds, Dom Wydawniczy Rebis, 2021

Inkography "The God Emperor of Dune" by Wojciech Siudmak was created in a closed limited edition of 100 copies.

Wojciech Siudmak - painter and sculptor, was born in 1942 in Wieluń, Poland. Between 1956 and 1961, he continued his education in Warsaw, at the High School of Fine Arts and then studied at the Academy of Fine Arts. In September 1966, he left for Paris and began his studies at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts. He lives and works in France. Wojciech Siudmak is a leading representative of fantasy realism and science fiction. Fantastic realism combines surreal vision with naturalistic art and has its roots in surrealism, as represented by S. Dali and R. Magritte. What Siudmak shares with Dalí is a virtuosity in rendering the three-dimensional illusion of space, a sense of light and shadow, linear and aerial perspectives. Siudmak's timeless art, captivates with its Renaissance perfection and virtuosity and imagination beyond the norm, fascinating with its intellectual richness. Many famous personalities have expressed their admiration for the artist's work: Federico Fellini, Jean-Jacques Annaud, George Lucas, Paul Guth, John Harrison, Jacques Goimard, Jean Claude Dunyach, Francis Lai, Guy Beart, Kim Stanley Robinson and Denis Villeneuve director of the Oscar-winning film "Diuna".
