Zdzisław Beksiński - Untitled (15)
Description
The photograph "Untitled (15)" by Zdzisław Beksiński is a print from the artist's original negative.
'The worst thing for me - not to be [...]. Not to be seems the most terrible thing that can happen to me [...]. For me, the question of not being is the greatest drama, if drama is the right word." - M. Skarżyńska, Conversation with Z. Beksiński, 1994 - Zdzisław Beksiński Archive - Historical Museum in Sanok.
As an artist wallowing in experimentation, Beksinski perceived portraiture in photography in a very broad sense. Although the applied characterisation of the model is very limited, it plays a key role in the perception. The chiaroscuro and harsh light used from above, draw only patches of colour on the face and thus make it significantly unreal. With this treatment - in line with the assumption of a "spiritual self-portrait" - we can observe a reflection of the artist's own identity - we are able to see a reflection of the artist's own identity.
The contemporary print was created under the substantive and technical supervision of the Historical Museum in Sanok in a unique, limited series of 25 copies. The Historical Museum in Sanok, in accordance with the artist's will, became the sole heir to his works and the copyright to them. Each print has two stamps - one dry stamp with the name of the institution and the other wet stamp, with information about the series number and with the signature of the Director of the Historical Museum in Sanok.
