Zdzislaw Beksinski - Scream
Description
The photograph "Scream" by Zdzisław Beksiński is a print from the artist's original negative.
The photograph from 1955 shows the wife of Zdzisław Beksiński - Zofia Beksińska. The portrait is composed very tightly and lit from above. The whole is bathed in gray with a clear black background that adds drama. The facial expressions of the portrayed woman are of prime importance here, as she opens her mouth wide and covers her eyes with the back of her hand, as if she wanted to protect herself from the overwhelming light or another figure... This eloquent gesture may be an analogy to the problem of death and despair, i.e. the most important trends in Beksiński's work.
A contemporary print was created under the substantive and technical supervision of the Historical Museum in Sanok in a unique, limited series of 30 copies. According to the artist's last will and testament, the Historical Museum in Sanok became the sole heir to his works and the copyrights to them. Each print has two seals - one dry with the name of the institution and the other wet, with information about the series number and the signature of the Director of the Historical Museum in Sanok.
