Zdzislaw Beksinski - Requiem
Description
The photograph "Requiem" by Zdzisław Beksiński is a print from the artist's original negative.
Looking at the over 50-year-old artistic output of Zdzisław Beksiński, we will conclude that - regardless of other threads - the motifs of passing, death and mystery are constantly present here. The clash of the living presence, i.e. the human figure, and the emptiness of the blackness of the frame perfectly symbolizes the theme of agony. To paraphrase the words of Czesław Miłosz - today there are no more those graves, or those sitting figures, or the person who took the photo. The use of only a part of the image of the face and its duplication in combination with the candle flame gives this photograph a symbolic dimension and leaves the viewer with an unspoken mystery.
A contemporary print was created under the substantive and technical supervision of the Historical Museum in Sanok in a unique, limited series of 30 copies. According to the artist's last will and testament, the Historical Museum in Sanok became the sole heir to his works and the copyrights to them. Each print has two seals - one dry with the name of the institution and the other wet, with information about the series number and the signature of the Director of the Historical Museum in Sanok.
