La Belle Rafaëlla is one of Tamara Łempicka’s boldest and most hypnotizing paintings. Less of a nude, more of a manifesto of female freedom. Rafaëlla — an Italian dancer and model — was not just a muse. She was a woman who turned heads but refused to be objectified.
Łempicka portrayed her with magnetic honesty — stretching in a gesture of pure pleasure, confident, fully aware of her body. This is no submissive odalisque, but the heroine of her own story.
The composition, inspired by Ingres’ La Grande Odalisque and the theatrical light of Caravaggio, balances classical painting with modern audacity. Rafaëlla lies like a monumental sculpture: curvaceous, corporeal, awe-inspiring. The red drapery intensifies the scene — not erotic, but affirming. It’s a painting that needs no context to move you. Yet the more you know — the stronger its pull.
The giclée was produced in a limited edition of 100 copies. Each print is individually numbered. Its authenticity is confirmed by a certificate embossed with the dry seal of Tamara de Lempicka Estate LLC and signed by Marisa de Lempicka.
