Tamara Łempicka received her first major award in 1927, when Kizette on the Balcony took the top prize at the Exposition Internationale des Beaux Arts in Bordeaux, France. The young girl portrayed in the painting is none other than Marie-Christine de Lempicka-Foxhall, the artist’s only daughter, later titled Baroness. Born in 1916 in Saint Petersburg, Kizette began modeling for her mother’s paintings from an early age. The turbulent, magnetic relationship between these two strong-willed women eventually became the subject of a book. In the late 1980s, Kizette published a memoir titled Tamara de Lempicka: A Life of an Artist.
Even in this early work, the distinct style of Łempicka is fully apparent — dramatic use of light, sculptural drapery, and bold, dynamic forms that became her signature within the Art Deco movement.
The original Kizette on the Balcony giclée is rendered in a refined palette of steel, ecru, and sand, giving the print an understated, elegant aura.
It’s a piece that would feel right at home in a law office or modern workspace, radiating not only high collector’s value, but also a strong, aesthetic presence.
