Zdzisław Beksiński (1929-2005) - a painter, graphic artist, sculptor, photographer, architect, and draughtsman. In 1947, he began studying at the Faculty of Architecture at the Krakow University of Technology. After obtaining his diploma as an architect in 1952, he worked professionally. In 1955, he returned to Sanok and devoted himself to art. He started his artistic career as a creative and original photographer, co-creating the history of Polish avant-garde in the 1960s. In parallel, he created drawings, followed by paintings and sculptures - initially in the spirit of expressionism, and later abstraction. His first successes came with exhibitions organized by Janusz Bogucki in Warsaw in the 1960s. The exhibition in 1972 showcased a new artistic direction, which he later referred to as the "fantastic period." In 1977, he burned part of his body of work, closing down his studio in Sanok and relocating to Warsaw. In the 1980s, he became associated with the Parisian dealer Piotr Dmochowski. In the 1990s, he created computer photomontages and compositions combining classical drawing with digital processing. Towards the end of his life, he returned to painting. A testament to his talent and extraordinary imagination is a collection of several thousand works, housed in the collections of the Historical Museum in Sanok.
