Edward Dwurnik (1943-2018) - one of the most outstanding painters of Polish contemporary art, who achieved international success before the political transformation in Poland, thanks to his participation in the prestigious modern art exhibition "documenta 7" in Kassel (1982). He studied at the Faculty of Painting of the Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts in the painting studio of Professor Eugeniusz Eibisch and the sculpture studio of Professor Jerzy Jarnuszkiewicz. He obtained his diploma in the painting studio of Prof. Krystyna Łada-Studnicka in 1970. He was inspired by the works of Bernard Buffet, but the works of Nikifor Krynicki have had the greatest influence on his work since 1965. He encapsulated his paintings in cycles, the best known of which are Droga (Ten Stations of the Secular Crucifixion), Sportowcy, Robotnicy, Warszawa and Podróże autostopem. He has been awarded among others: Solidarity Cultural Award (1983), Nouvelle Biennale de Paris (1985), Contemporary Art Foundation Award (1992), Coutts Contemporary Art Foundation Award (1992) and recognised at the Seoul Art Olympics (1988). His body of work includes more than 4,500 paintings, 3,500 watercolours and some 13,000 drawings. He has had more than 80 solo exhibitions at home and abroad and more than 90 group exhibitions.
