Paweł Kowalewski - Me shot by the Indians
Description
This is one of the artist's iconic works from the 1980s. Described as "the author's ironic self-portrait", this painting, due to its simplified figuration, deep saturation of red, and (or perhaps above all) due to the emphatic title, remains a timeless commentary on one of the most difficult years - and not only for artists - Poland under communism. This work is a very clear example of Paweł Kowalewski's work of the 1980s - the times of the famous Gruppa, of which Kowalewski was a co-creator, and times when the title of the works, being an inseparable element of the image, resounded in the ears and minds long after the vision had disappeared before our eyes.
