We have become bored with the urban noise. We escape from the everyday life in the agglomeration, seeking relief in idyllic landscapes. Will we still encounter anything exciting in the city? Is there more to the metropolis than routine? It was Edward Dwurnik who enchanted the city all over again. He made it the main subject in his series Hitchhiking Journeys, which he created continuously for more than forty years.
Available at DESA Modern galleries, Płock is a special work. It perfectly captures that moment when an attentive gaze mixes with the artist's fairy-tale imagination. Why shouldn't crocodiles bathe in the Vistula? Against the backdrop of Płock's Old Town, impressive sailing ships pass by, maneuvering among the whales emerging joyfully. This title will enchant your interiors and will not let you forget that really anything is possible.
It's hard to find a more perfect display of artistic mastery than Free City of Gdansk. Dwurnik used the color blue exclusively here, multiplying its shades by thousands. The monumental St. Mary's Basilica gives a geometric rhythm to the successive rows of Gdańsk townhouses. Here the artist reveals the secret of his workshop - in the repetition of pattern and color lies the most powerful beauty. This work will emphasize the unique character of your spaces - both office and private.
A vigilant eye will notice what is the key to the work Łódź (2). Nothing but windows! Dwurnik painted hundreds of them, patiently recreating the architecture of Łódz's Liberty Square. The busy traffic circle is only the apparent center of the urban world. Real life goes on in the courtyards, floors and attics. Each of the windows, skylights and portholes leads to parallel realities of the local residents. This title will enliven any interior, filling it with the melody of infinite micro-stories.
These and other works can be found both in the stationary galleries and on the DESA Modern website. Created in limited editions with the artist's handwritten signature, Edward Dwurnik's inkographs are collector's pieces of the highest order.
