Description

For Dwurnik, painting was a way of life, even a necessity. Perhaps that is why he managed to portray so many urban agglomerations, not only in Poland, but also in the world. "The Free City of Gdańsk" is a very important work also in historical terms, due to the revival of the Republic of Poland after World War I. It shows St. Mary's Basilica built for 159 years, which is the third largest temple in the world in terms of volume, which was made of brick.

"Hitch-hiking" is Edward Dwurnik's most famous series of works. The artist transports the viewer into the world of urban bustle, documenting countless cities and towns in a characteristic way, both wandering around the remote corners of Poland and visiting world capitals.

“Dwurnik has the gift of seeing what cannot be seen from a specific point of view. He composes the image of the place from what is remembered, lifts up what is seen on the ground. The goal is the image; the focus is obviously shifted to a new composition, a new value. It is building new cities with plans and photos.”
