A versatile artist, a total artist

Zdzisław Beksiński is an outstanding Polish artist and a leading representative of surrealism. A very modest man, and at the same time a fascinating figure that almost every art lover knows. About the unique Beksiński family, the films "Beksińscy. Videophonic Album" directed by Marcin Borchardt and "The Last Family" by Jan Matuszyński, awarded at the International Film Festival in Locarno, were made . Beksiński's works were also used in the contemporary criminal and moral series "Chyłka". He continues to inspire fashion designers and performance directors , and his work is in museums, galleries and private collections around the world. A unique album devoted to the artist's work , prepared in cooperation with the Historical Museum in Sanok, was released in a luxury version: in an enlarged format and elegant layout, with a volume of over 500 pages. It contains the artist's best paintings, through which he expressed himself most fully.

Mysterious heliographs

Those less familiar with Beksiński's work may only associate his paintings. However , the artist was active in many fields . In addition to the so-called the fantastic period, when he mainly practiced painting, he also expressed himself in the medium of drawing, sculpture, photography and broadly understood graphics . DESA Modern's offer includes several dozen heliographs by him in a limited edition of 10 pieces. It is a graphic technique patented by Beksiński, also referred to as cliché-verre . What is it characterized by? It is a drawing on a previously prepared glass plate, which is transferred to photosensitive paper in the photographic darkroom using the contact method.

Depth and mood of melancholy

Formally, his gaze was something completely avant-garde and unconventional for the 1950s. Beksiński created without ceasing. Always fascinated by the human figure and experiment, he began photographing his closest wife, Zofia. Defocus, blur, the use of a long exposure time, tests under the enlarger - will be appreciated by every photography lover. Thanks to the cooperation with the Historical Museum in Sanok, we can boast of the achievements of Zdzisław Beskiński in our portfolio. In accordance with the last will and testament, the artist donated several thousand of his works to this institution in Sanok. In September 2022, in our Gallery at Pl. Constitution, we had the great honor to inaugurate a new collection of Beksiński's works in our offer. We hosted Wiesław Banach, a longtime friend of the Master, who was the Museum's director for 30 years, and Jarosław Serafin, the current manager of this institution.
