There is a unique type of prints on the art market that exceptionally attract the attention of collectors. These are the so-called " 1s", i.e. the first numbers of editions of works of art. In the offer of DESA Modern recently appeared Edward Dwurnik's inkographs bearing just such numbers - 1/10, 1/20, 1/50 or 1/100. The works in question are at the same time the last available copies within the series.
The interest of collectors in the works of Edward Dwurnik is not waning. The 2018 canvas "Blue Tulips" auctioned at "Contemporary Art. Classics of the Avant-Garde after 1945" at DESA Unicum estimates up to 180 thousand PLN. A similar price ceiling is also reached by a strong in expression, orange abstraction - "Painting No. 54 from the series "Twenty-fifth". You will find similar proposals in the incography offer, and their uniqueness will undoubtedly be evidenced by the first issue of the edition. We are very pleased to present the iconic "Pink Tulips" 1/100 and one of the artist's few late abstract realizations, "Pollock" 1/20.
It is worth mentioning that the incography technique itself perfectly captures Dwurnik's artistic vision, as the process of its creation took place under the artist's guidance. Each work has a unique edition number and a handwritten signature in the lower right corner. The confirmation of the authenticity of the artwork is a certificate, which is attached during the purchase. It is at the same time a document stating that the highest quality materials were used in the creation of the inkography.
In the case of the first issues of the Edward Dwurnik edition, another factor influences their value. Among the titles are the most sought-after and valued compositions, which were the most popular, and for the last few years were not in our offer. These include:
- Warsaw themes, of which it is worth mentioning the "Wilanów", "Żoliborz" and the vibrant urban life of "Royal Castle" or "Marszałkowska";
- vedutas of other Polish cities, of which "Wroclaw" or "Gdansk" are examples, but also foreign ones, such as sunny "Madrid" or cool blue "New York";
- landscapes - "Artificial Pond in Brzezowka," the idyllic "Cranes" or the picturesque yet moving "Icarus."
The hallmark of Dwurnik's work is undoubtedly the color blue, which the artist used for very mundane reasons. When he was creating, in the early 1980s, only blue shades of paint appeared in stores. Among such works we can confidently distinguish "Mariensztad" and "Cracow blue."
"1s" have extraordinary collector value, given their availability. And here an excellent example, proving the uniqueness of Dwurnik's works, are the titles "Rydzyk's Legions" and "Politicians are whores". Both works - which are a kind of commentary on the reality of the time - were created in a very small edition, as they are numbered 1/10. We heartily recommend them to your attention.
All of the inkographs mentioned in the text are available in DESA Modern's stationary galleries or in the online store desamodern.pl
