Rafał Olbiński (born 1943) - painter, poster artist, illustrator, graphic designer, set designer, and co-creator of the so-called Polish Poster School. In 1969, he graduated from the Faculty of Architecture at the Warsaw University of Technology. In 1981, he moved to Paris, and later emigrated to New York. In 1985, he started working as a lecturer at the School of Visual Arts in New York. Olbiński is highly regarded in Poland and abroad, as evidenced by 38 individual exhibitions in the USA, Germany, Japan, Poland, Belgium, Chile, Switzerland, the Netherlands, France, and Venezuela. He has been honored with over 150 awards for his work. The most prestigious ones include the Artistic Oscar for the Most Significant Poster of the Year (1994), the award for the Best British Illustration at the Prix Savignac in Paris (1994), the first prize in the New York City Capital of the World competition (1995), the Stephan Dohanos Award for the Best Work of the Year (1996), and the Gloria Artist Gold Medal from the President of Poland (2006). Rafał Olbiński is one of the most recognizable Polish artists whose poetic language fascinates and inspires. His works are filled with an atmosphere of wonder, extraordinariness, and often exude an aura between reality and dream, captivating even the most demanding viewer.
