Jarosław Modzelewski (born 1955) - painter, draftsman, prominent representative of Polish figurative painting, and educator. In 1980, he defended his diploma in painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw under the guidance of Prof. Stefan Gierowski, where he later led a studio. He was a co-founder of Grupa, with which he exhibited for nearly nine years from 1983. He is considered one of the main figures of the "Expression of the 80s." From 1986 to 1989, he created figurative paintings that adhered to the principles of realism. Modzelewski believes that the 90s were the most important years in his artistic career. During that time, together with Marek Sobczyk, he ran a private Art School in Warsaw. Since 1997, the artist has been working with tempera and has abandoned the technique of oil painting. He received the "Polityka" Passport for the year 1998 and is the laureate of the Jan Cybis Award (2004).
